Using this website

You may read, print and link to the pages on this site for your own use. You may quote short extracts if you credit Plainfiles and link back. Please do not copy whole guides or reuse our images and kit artwork without asking us first.

Information, not advice

The guides and kits are general information and templates. They are not legal, tax, financial or licensing advice, and they do not decide what applies to your own premises, income or business. We write from the official sources and give the date we last checked them, but rules and guidance change, and some of what we describe is not yet in force. Before you rely on anything, check the official pages we link to, and speak to your local council, regulator or a qualified professional where it matters.

Plainfiles is an independent publisher. We are not part of, endorsed by or acting for HMRC, the Home Office, the Security Industry Authority, DEFRA, HSE, any council or any other public body, and nothing we publish guarantees a licence, rating, inspection result or tax outcome.

Buying our products

Our kits and logbooks are not sold on this website. They are sold by us through third-party stores such as Etsy, Payhip and Amazon. The terms, prices, delivery, refund and cancellation rules of the store you buy from apply to your purchase, together with any rights you have under consumer law. Prices shown on this site are for guidance only and the store listing is the source of truth.

Accuracy and availability

We try to keep the site accurate and up to date, but we do not promise that it is complete or error-free, or that it will always be available. If you spot a mistake, please tell us.

We link to other websites to help you find official sources and our products. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content.

Liability

Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Subject to that, we are not liable for losses that result from relying on the general information on this website instead of checking the official sources or taking advice.

Privacy and changes

How we handle personal data is explained in our privacy policy. We may update these terms from time to time; the date at the top shows the latest version.

Governing law

These terms are governed by Scots law, and the Scottish courts have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer living elsewhere in the UK, you may also bring proceedings in the courts of the part of the UK where you live, and you keep any protection given to you by the mandatory law of that place.
